Sign up for AlertU Emergency Text Messaging System
Merced College is offering SMS ("short messaging service") emergency notification service to your mobile phone. In the event of an emergency, Merced College students, staff, faculty, and others will be alerted in real-time regarding important safety and security information.
How to Sign Up
AlertU is a subscription service, which means you have to sign up to receive the SMS emergency notifications.
Signing up is simple. Just text MERCED to 55155. After sending the message, you will receive an enrollment message. You must reply with Y to confirm.
While this service is free, your standard message rates apply. Merced College and our partner AlertU will never spam you, nor sell your information to any third-party companies.
What is Alert U?
AlertU is an emergency short messaging service (SMS) text messaging technology developed for college and university communities and other enterprises. Designated system administrators send text messages to subscribers' mobile devices on critical campus updates in real time.
How is AlertU Utilized?
AlertU is only used in emergency situations to communicate critical information to employees, student, faculty, and staff during an emergency. AlertU is no used for non-emergency information.
What is 2-Way Messaging?
2-way messaging allows subscribers to reply to received emergency alerts in real time. Subscribers can relay emergency information to AlertU systems administrators from inside a crisis zone.
How to Users Subscribe?
Users subscribe to receive alerts by texting the designated keyword ("Merded") to 55155 (AlertU) or by signing on through widgets posted on the college's website, or by visiting AlertU's Lookup page.
Does it Cost Anything to Subscribe?
Depending on your mobile phone plan, you may be charged a nominal amount when you receive a text message.
How to Users Unscubscribe?
To unsubsribe, text "stop" or "unsub" to 55155 (AlertU).
Can AlertU be Accessed Away from an Office
Yes. AlertU is web-based and accounts can be accessed from any web-enabled device to send emergency alerts.
Why is it Necessary to Opt-In?
Telemarketing and anti-SPAM regulations clearly warn against sending unsolicited text SPAM messages suvscirbers simply have to opt-in, authorizing permission to receive text alerts to their phones.
